Liguria

Liguria is located on the border with France, in northwest Italy. It's a land of mountains and hills overlooking the Ligurian Sea, colored by the green of the Mediterranean scrub. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Ligurian cuisine is pesto, a tasty basil sauce with pine nuts, extra virgin olive oil, Parmesan, pecorino, and garlic, used to season typical Ligurian pasta dishes like borage ravioli or trenette. On our marketplace Mangiamo Italiano Liguria's best pesto producers are found here, making it one of Italy's finest products, the king of Made in Italy excellence. Seafood dishes are also a must, including traditional fish soups, ciuppin and buridda (stockfish stew), and stuffed and fried sardines. The Easter specialty is torta Pasqualina (Easter pie), filled with herbs, eggs, and cheese. As for meat, the excellent cima alla genovese (veal stuffed with cheese and herbs) and stewed rabbit seasoned with Taggiasca olives, pine nuts, and rosemary are also popular. And don't forget Liguria's traditional desserts: amaretti biscuits, pandolce genovese (a typical Genoese dessert), and cubeli (small shortcrust pastry biscuits). In Liguria we also find wonderful extra virgin olive oils and excellent wines including Bianchetta di Genova, Pollera Nera della Riviera di Levante, Albarola, Rossese di Dolceacqua, Ormeasco, Vermentino, Pigato di Salea di Albenga, Ciliegiolo and the legendary Vermentino. Mangiamo Italiano there is also the possibility of ordering extra virgin olive oil and fantastic Ligurian wines, among the best Italian products from the most renowned and well-known Italian producers on our Peninsula.
